PPI's are being associated with deficiencies of certain minerals and vitamins when taken long term - so if you are taking a long term acid supressor, then seriously think about a daily Centrum tablet as well

Thank you for bringing up this very important topic for discussion.

We probably need more than a multivitamin if we take a PPI. I found out that I was deficient in calcium and vitamin D3. Even though I am now off the darned PPI, I am still supplementing with calcium, magnesium, D3, fish oil and a B complex, in addition to the multivitamin.

Most studies are now concurring with the notion that long term PPI use interferes with the absorption of calcium and several important vitamins and nutrients.

Good info rose - I hope the regular users of PPI's take note and spend a few cents a day on some supplements

I read about that somewhere.
does it interface with the absorption it self or the breaking down chemicals because lack of acid??

PPI only shut down acid production so our stomach is not able to break down hard chemicals to micronutrients because lack of acid.
Therefore we don't have enough nutrients to absorp.

So PPI are not interfacing the absorption but the breaking up chemicals process???

I think its a bit of each, but I am not sure...... but the end result is you absorb less iron, B12, Zinc etc, and a daily supplement is a wise idea
