i am soon going to get a dog and i'm planning to crate train it and i was wondering how i could tell whether the pup just wants attention or needs to go to the toilet when it whines(and how long i have to wait for it to stop whining so i can take it to go to the toilet)
*
but another big problem is when i sleep i usually cant hear soft to medium noises like toilets being flushed but i can hear my alarm clock(i'm not sure if it can hear it in the middle of the night tho)......so i was also wondering how loud the pupies whines are ?

and what size crate would a female shih tzu need(lenght and width in cm plz)

sorry about the heap of questions and thanks 4 ur help

you only want the crate to be big enough for the puppy to lay down in... it has to be small enough so it can't pee in one corner and get away from it to sleep, otherwise it won't care if it needs to go pee bc it will have room [the dog won't want to lay in it's own mess]! If you play with your puppy enough, and give it enough attention during the day, and give it a chance to 'go potty' before bedtime it should be able to make it until the morning. Just set an alarm clock.

ps: puppies can be loud. don't be fooled by the itty bitty paws and the cute faces haha

Take it out every 3 hours. Do not let it whine to get out. You make the schedule not the dog. It will whine no matter what. Whining does not mean potty. Wear ear plugs!!!!
