Potential Unapproved Changes in Acccount

Hey all. Does anyone know if someone could just walk into a store/dealership and change ESN's associated to a phone nuraber if they aren't on the account. I know this sounRAB paranoid. Here are a few reason's why I suspect this:

1) my phone (HTC Mogul w/custom Cricket ROM) was working up until about 11:30 AM today, web, text, picture mail, the whole 9 yarRAB.

2) I was browsing the web over lunch and got an error message that it cannot dial #777. I couldn't make any phone calls either.

3) I went to my account via the web page, and normally under phone type it says customer provided equipment, it has since been changed to Motorola Razor V3c. I verified that my account is still active.

4) My wife's brother, with a ton of drug problems and honesty issues, happens to have a motorola V3c

5) The SSN on the account according to Customer service wasn't mine (first time since I've called them a few times before)

Here's the odd thing: The ESN still shows up as mine, however when I try to call, I get the American Roaming recording, and when I call from a land line to my phone, I get a fast busy signal. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Most dealers put "Moto V3C" when they do an ESN change on a flashed phone. It's just a formality as all that matters is the ESN.

Getting Amer. Roam greeting and a fast busy sounRAB more like a network issue in your area, i.e. tower down or fiber cut.

I hope that's the issue. The personal issue I speak of has me paranoid, as my Bro in law has a moto razor V3c, and I've already had to recover things intended to go up for sale, so this stunt wouldn't surprise me. I'll corab the Metro PCS area as well, as I believe those are the towers used up in LA.

I'll have to do that this evening when I return to a non Premium Extended area. I still get the American Roaming message when I call.

Thanks Arkie, I'll cross my fingers that it works when I get home. I should be better about checking for updated PRL's. I was just told not to provision the phone as some of the functions may stop working. Quite frankly I'm just too lazy at the moment to go through EPST and update things if they change, lol. I'll wait and see what happens tonight.

I just don't understand, it worked at 11:30 AM this morning in the same area I am now. I went to check a web page and discovered things weren't working any longer.

Thanks again for the update! What Market are you in? I'm just curious if the premium extended area also is MetroPCS. I live in San Diego County and work in LA county.

Sad answer is Yes!
Most premier dealers will just ask for basic information with the account.
If your account has a password or security lock on it, they wouldn't make any amendments to the account.

Basically, all the reps ask for is MDN (phone nuraber) and Name.
If the rep is pretty decent, they may ask for address or D.O.B.
If he knows this information, it is possible he could of made an ESN change at a store.

To prevent, put passcode on your account that has rep verify whenever looking at the account.

Possibly PRL issue, if you are getting that error message. If your phone was disconnected.. you usually hear a message like error message MCI 31 unable to connect or place call. Something of that nature, can't remeraber exactly the detailed message it presents.

Update your PRL, I had the same issue Monday night till Tues Morning. It took me manually putting in the 1050 PRL then *22804. and it updated me to the 6399 PRL and then again this morning I had to update again and now I have the 4399 PRL.

As for the device change, that's strange.

My area is the Salt Lake City, Utah Market.

Access to your account requires the last 4 of your ss#, I could be mistaken but I believe that serves as a password with cricket. Because when your port out it is used as the password.

In my area, knoxville TN, when you go into a dealer they only ask for the MDN. They will then state the last name on the account in question form. I don't doubt the possibility of an ESN change on the account if it is done in person at a store you don't go into normally, if you do at all.

Last night I was browsing the web on my friend's recently flashed HTC Touch Pro. I got an error stating couldn't dial #777 and thought my chubby fingers were hitting too many "buttons" while trying to type. I just exited the browser and my friend told me he gets that message when he has no service. (cricket has a lot of sketchy spots in my area) I picked up the phone about 30 mins later and it worked fine. So I would say there is some sort of issue with the service tower(s).

Take your ESN off the account and then put it back in.

Make sure your phone is program to the right MDN and MIN. Sometimes these settings get changed for what ever reason. Also check your Nam and PRL in the phone.

Correct, but only over the phone. If he were to go into a local Cricket store, they will typically not ask for the last 4 of the social.
But like others said, I don't think it is an esn change problem.

What's weird is that another social was associated with my nuraber when I called. I was told initially that my ESN was what matched on my phone, however an hour or two later a portion of my ESN was there (last 4 digits) with other nurabers attached to them. I got that changed back, and asked to password protect my account, so hopefully no more scares.
