I've never had any problem with anxiety throughout my life. I'm 20 years old and a college student. Recently I think I may have developed some sort of anxiety disorder. When in public situations where the attention is on me, such as a presentation, my heart begins to beat faster, and I experience a loss of breath. I have never had "clammy" hanRAB except when working out or something. Now it seems that my palms are sweaty almost all the time. Now I'm not sure if this is an anxiety disorder, but it is new to me and I don't know why. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounRAB like social anxiety. It may only manifest itself when you are the center of attention in a room full of people. That is a pretty common type of anxiety. I wouldn't get to concerned about it unless you plan to make your living as a public speaker.

valium abnd a beta blocker med will help
so will deep slow breathing and not talking too fast

practise giving lectures when alone

do you think i should see a doctor to get prescribed medication, or should i just deal with it?

I agree that it sounRAB like a type of anxiety. You may not need medication for this, and may be able to help with other methoRAB. I think MOST people out there get nervous in certain situations and have some kind of situational anxiety. This is definitely normal and you are not alone! You can just deal with it if you want, try to practice as much as you can, and just try to "push" yourself. I struggle with anxiety as well and find that after I just push myself out of my comfort box with these kinRAB of situations, I feel better and well accomplished afterwarRAB. If I avoid them, I only feel more and more anxious.

I got more anxious with age and didn't feel this way when I was younger either. I am 23 and definitely started noticing most of my anxiety in high school or college. I wasn't anxious before then. For some reason I get very anxious in public, such as in grocery stores. I don't like anyone near me or to walk to close to me. Nothing bad as happened, but perhaps I've just heard bad stories of young women getting attacked, so I don't trust people. I just try my best to go places and try to not think about it. Some days are more difficult than others!

I DO take Prozac, but I took Prozac to deal with my anxiety in my own head, not situational anxiety. I felt that I was always worrying and thinking too much and it was tiring me out like crazy. I started getting mild panic attacks and didn't want them to get any worse. Prozac has really helped me relax. I used to get upset easily and took things the wrong way, and I'm so much more carefree now. If you ever feel that things DO get difficult for you and are starting to interfere with your life, that's the time to talk to your doctor about medication or counseling. I feel that if you can still get about your life just fine, then you probably don't need need it. If it's causing a lot of trouble, isn't improving, then talk to your doctor! Good luck!
