Possible Sinus Infection or Something Else?

I have had a cold for the past 4 days. Yesterday, I started to have achy, burning pain in my teeth (lower and upper jaw on the right side of my face), achiness in the right half of my tongue, and some pain behind my ear, as well as sinus pain. That side of my jaw also felt nurab intermittently. I went to Urgent Care last night to be looked at. The doctor looked inside my ears, my throat and my nose. He told me that my ears are clear, my throat looks a little red and my nose is boggy. He prescribed me Amitrix (a mild muscle relaxer to relax my jaw muscles), as well as Patranase which is an antihistamine nasal spray, and he told me to return in two days if the symptoms persist. I still don't understand why he prescribed me an antihistamine...

My question is: do these symptoms sound like a sinus infection? If not, what else might it be? I'm thinking about making a dental appointment (even though I had my teeth cleaned only last month), as I wonder if I might have some sort of gum infection since tapping my teeth together seems to cause pain in one of my two front teeth.

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? My boyfriend tells me that he has had sinus infections, and my symptoms are identical to his.

Thanks

Chances are pretty good it is a sinus infection.

You might try a nasal saline spray or using a Neti pot in addition to your other treatment. The Neti treatment helps "clean" things out.

If the drainage from your sinuses is clear, it's allergies. If it's green or yellow, then it's an infection. Either one can cause pressure and tooth pain. Evidently he saw no infection, decided it was allergies, ergo the antihistamine.

Titchou,
The drainage has been mostly clear with a tinge of yellow (though that may have only been lighting); despite this, I decided to get myself checked. I'll just continue on the regimen to see if my symptoms improve.

A neti pot is a long spouted pot that you put a saline rinse in and use to rinse out your sinsuses. You can find them in most drug stores. Lots of folks with allergies and other forms of sinusitis, which it seems you may have, use them to flush out their sinuses.
