Possible problem with my iMac?

I've occasionally been having to force quit some of the programs that I regularly run (e.g. Firefox, iTunes, iMovie) I was just wondering if its normal to force quit programs occasionally.

Oh, and I'm new to iMacs so bear with me here.
 
If you haven't run software updates in awhile, go to the top right of your screen, click the apple, and click software updates. Also, check and make sure for firefox, that you have the newest version.

Also, how much RAM do you have installed?
