Possessed sidekick..?

I had a sidekick LX and it worked just fine for me; a few problems but nothing I couldn't handle. I got attacked by a dog about a month ago (I have bad luck). While the dog was eating my leg off my sidekick broke. I was more upset about my phone then the puncture wounds all up my leg.
My sister bought a sidekick 2008 off her friend for like twenty dollars. Her friend told her it worked great. My sister gave it too me as a late birthday present. I didn't care that it had been used I was happy to have a phone. It worked fine for about two weeks then stuff started happening..
-it started to do that thing when it would shut up by itself and I would have to "reboot" it and I would lose all my contacts and pictures and well anything on my phone. (I have tmobile and I don't have the date service package.)
-I would save stuff on my sim card for sake of saving it from when my sidekick would crash and things started disappearing.
-it randomly shuts off and I have to take the battery and/or sim card out and turn it back on cause it will get stuck on the jump start button screen.
Things got so much worse today. I was talking on the phone with somebody and it sounded like they hung up cause I stopped hearing everything. I looked at my phone, the screen was black but the end and call button were lit up. I tried pressing the buttons to unlock it and nothing happened. I waited a couple of minutes and took the battery and sim card out of the phone. I waited again and placed them back inside my phone. I tried turning it on. It said it needed to charge and to wait a few moments and it would restart automatically. I was frantic. I waited ten minutes and it finally turned back on. I decided to let it charge. I waited until it was about 50% full for the battery. I lost a bar almost automatically. I thought this was weird so I went to menu>battery and display. I looked at the thing that shows the percents of the battery. It was going down one or two percent every one or two seconds. I know this is not normal.
What is wrong with this damn thing?
I'm fourteen and I don't have the money to purchase a new phone.
If I get a new battery will it solve the battery problem?
Thank you for reading all of this. I appreciate it.
