Port in use

I just upgraded from a Tunsten T to a Tx and am synching with a mac 10.3.9. After ensuring there was no outdated/incompatible 3rd party software I synched via cable the first time and then set things up to use bluetooth as I had in the past. I was succesful once, but have been unable to synch by bluetooth since. I get a message that says the port is in use by another application. After an hour on the phone from palm and many suggestions the same message always occurs. Tomorrow a "level 2" tech is to call. The last suggestion was to remove the wireless mouse and keyboard. I declined since I had no problem in the past. The only other salient info is that even with the cable I get a synch failure from time to time. Invariably if I immediately retry it synchs fine. Any ideas? Thanks.

The message appears on the PDA. I have noted the same problem in apple discussions. They seem to be attributing it to the operating system 10.4.4. There has been no universal solution and I am using 10.3.9. As a final effort after soft re-sets, re-starts etc. I tried removing the wireless keyboard and mouse and the port in use problem continues. I then loaded the palm CD on to a newer IMac which has never been used with pda's in the past. After the cable sync went well I tried by bluetooth and got as far as identifying user on both the pda and the mac, before getting "lost connection error" . After that every attempt results in "port in use". One final odd note , the palm desktop software shows up as 4.2.2 on the first machine and 4.2.1 on the second one.
