Pork Dinner

We had pork for dinner last night. It was pretty easy, since I didn't
do a thing. My wife didn't do anything either. What a life!

My younger son bought a pork butt, rubbed it and put it in the smoker
for eight hours. He bought some canned white beans and bacon, and made
beans. I don't know what else he put in it, but he put the pot in the
smoker for some time. My daughter made potato salad, with bacon. My
oldest son thought that was overdoing the pork. My daughter said she
was cooking it, so it was her choice. She also made cole slaw (but with
no pork in it). There were buns for those who wanted a sandwich.

It was all very good. My kids invited a half dozen of their friends, so
we didn't have to worry about leftovers!

FABULOUS!

I *love* it when my kids cook dinner for us at our house! Talk about
l-a-z-y. Yep, that's me - I'll admit it. You know what they say
about food you don't have to cook yourself? Well it's even better
when you don't have to leave home, as you know by now. LOL!

They sound like great kids! Without kids we did exactly the same two nights
ago, smoked a rubbed pork butt for 9 hours @250F in our relatively new Weber
Smokey Mountain. I've wondered why I bought it until I found it effortlessly
maintains a constant smoking temp for 10+ hours with a single load of
charcoal. I didn't have to do anything but add water to the water pan. I
didn't ever look at the coals, by intent. I wish we had had children to do
the cooking!

In the Bay Area where do you buy butt? What did you do after you pulled the
pork? Did you add anything or was it moist enough? Did you wrap it in foil
ever? I guess you better ask the kids.

They're good cooks, too, which helps.

I think he bought this at Raley's. He sometimes goes to a butcher shop
in Cotati, which I think is the last independent butcher shop in this
area.

It wasn't pulled. My son rough chopped it. It seemed moist enough, but
there was bottled sauce on the table. I didn't see any foil.

Costco has whole pork butt at a very reasonable price. I've also purchased
that at Cash and Carry, a restaurant market in Oakland at a good price. BTW,
as I'm sure you know pork butt is pork shoulder. The biceps muscle is part
of the "picnic". I had incorrectly thought the butt was the biceps muscle.
