Alright, so I haven't watched television regularly in a decade. That makes me feel kinda old, but I just have better things to do with my time. NOW, this morning I decided to turn on the bubetube and flip a channel or two while I was eating breakfast. I ended up on MTV.

There were two things I noticed. SECOND, there is a commercial after every video. I remember when I was in middle school/high school, there was 4 or 5 videos between commercials and that wasn't enough. WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THE ADS. How do people tolerate that bullshit? Commercials are one of many reasons I refuse to watch tv, and this 3 minute song, 4 minutes of commercials is regoddamnfuckingdiculous.

Now the first thing I noticed is from the video that started shortly after finding the station. It was a hip hop video. The whole thing was shot in a strip club and was filled with bikini clad women gyrating their hips while a pair of rappers went on and on about how the way she moves makes them want to do her all night and going into detail about her body and the kind of noises that would be coming out of the bedroom.

WHAT THE FUCK?!

The prime time for kids to watch tv is before and after school. This definitely qualifies as getting ready for school time. When I was a kid there was similar vulgarities in Public Enemy, NWA and 2 Live Crew. HOWEVER, those were all banned from playing videos and any reasonable hour.

I work in an Elementary School. We have 3rd and 4th graders talking about blowjobs and handjobs. There was a 5th grader that got pregnant a couple years ago. A FUCKING 10 YEAR OLD.

I'm assuming pop culture has gone in this direction for the money. But how far are we going to go? When we implode? How long will we celebrate mediocrity just to have a little shock value? Why are allowing young children to become so obsessed with sex at such an early age? When the fuck did I become a conservative?

I've considered many of the same thoughts and kept on asking myself...am I just getting old?
I remember that uproar about Beavis and Butthead back in my middle school days. And while I admit they weren't the greatest influence, it is hard for me to beleive that things haven't gotten worse since then. I'm not THAT old after all.
We all know that the media's response is that parents should not allow their children to watch these things. But come on, at least attempt to make it easier to shelter the youngins and not put it on the same time as Dora. Parentals controls are great, but it shouldn't be the media's answer to everything.

And wtf! a 10 year old was knocked up at your school.

That's it my kids are officially living in a cave.

Killerbean I couldn't agree more with you, nope. People are becoming so used to constant commercials that they now have commercials DURING the shows, between the commercials! The corners of many shows are filled with animated commercials for other shows. It's astounding and it Truly and deeply scares me. It scares me because people are becoming so used to commercials that anything is possible.

No medium is immune to this. Take the Bob and Tom show, a radio show broadcast in the morning nationwide.

The show is literally like this.

Commercials, then pre-show commercials from the Bob and Tom cast, then introductions, then pimping shit, then a couple minutes of talk, then more pimping shit, then pimping locales of comedy clubs, then 7-9 minute commercial break, Rinse, Repeat.

It's not a show, it's one long infomercial interrupted by more commercials. I can't fucking stand the way things are headed. I'm not old about this, just rational.

To add to the ridiculousness, they have TV Specials all about commercials, funny ones, international ones, fucking stupid.

I know that every generation complains about the newest one but seriously the kids today scare me. I had no idea what a blowjob was until I was 13 or 14. Nowadays if you haven't given one by that age you are a prude.

I agree KB, I see the problem, what is the solution? When I have kids they will be allowed to watch the Discovery Channel and occasionally Nickelodeon or Disney but I will seriously limit it. I have a friend with two kids who did that, they watch practically no TV and they are way ahead of all their friends in mental development.

No wonder the rest of the world thinks we are so fucked up.

The thing is, you said at the end you're a conservative; this does not make you one. I am in full support of free speech, free press, etc etc blah blah, but I do agree that certain things do not need to be shown in the hours when children are most likely to be watching the tv.

The thing is, it's all about how the parents educate their children; it's not all the media's fault. I grew up watching MTV all day and horror movies. My mom explained them to me, telling me all about how horror movies were made and why they're not real. She explained to me that music videos don't reflect real life in the least. I turned out perfectly fine because my mom took the time to explain this stuff to me, so when I continued to watch it, I knew it was fake and did not take it to heart or make MTV my Fact of Life.

;854046']I'll never be one to justify evil by any means. But read everything KB said. Put some serious thought into the things you see and hear. Then think of some infamous people and the words they said:

Strange how before this idiocy we had none of these problems. Just a glancing thought.
