I have a 2006 jeep wrangler x with a dana 30. I can hear a clicking or popping that is in conjunction with my speed. The faster i go the faster it gets and vice versa however it stops once i get going fast enough or either gets drowned out by road noise. I mostly hear it while going slow in first or second. I dont think it has anything to do with the transmission because it does it whether im in gear or not. I believe it to be the u-joint. is there any other causes i may not be thinking of? wheel bearings etc? I do have 33 inch tires on and i live in new orleans where the roads are very poor. Should i just upgrade my dana 30 altogether or just change the u joint every time it starts clicking which is more cost effective? any help would be appreciated. also if i just change the u joint assuming that's what it is how difficult is it to do myself? Im in the military and we have an auto hobby shop if that helps.
beartree......this is happening when i am not in 4wd and i have an open diff front end so that couldnt be it. wheel bearings or u joint is my guess tho.
