All of a sudden my back has started popping. I have been fused T2-S1 3 years ago. After reading others' entries, I'm hoping it's my hardware rubbing together. I spoke to the PA at my dr's office and she didn't seem like it was anything to worry about, although she didn't say why it should be doing that. It does it many times throughout the day. Reaching, bending, and the last time I was just yawning! It's kind of freaky. Does anyone know for certain why this happens?

This doesn't sound right. I had popping and grinding early on after my fusion, but nothing since I've been fully fused. Your hardware shouldn't be rubbing against itself if you're fused. I think I would want to get some tests done to make sure nothing's changing in there. I wonder if your PA is acting unworried because she doesn't want to say she has no idea what's going on. I'd press for testing, maybe a CT scan, perhaps with 3D reconstruction. Are you of osteoporosis age or somewhat close to it? I developed early onset osteoporosis and it made my back much worse. If your spine is breaking down due to that, it could cause shifts so the hardware might actually be able to rub against itself.

I hope you get the answers you need.

My back pops most days(mostly if i twist) my surgeon said that it is muscular, i asked if this was normal and he said that my back was far from normal!
I find that the popping is not painful but with all the back pain i have had it makes me sort of tense up when it happens.
I am waiting for a 3 level fusion and have had discectomy and bi-lateral decompression at l45
