I have been battling with our pool's alkalinity since we tried to open it this season. I've now gone through 2 gallons of muriatic acid attempting to slug the water to the correct alkalinity. We use well water to fill the pool, i tested the well water and it was high in alkalinity which means i've been attempting to bring the alkalinity to a lower ideal, maybe 80 or so (it was at 240, after the two gallons it seems to be around 180?) so that when we add water it won't overadjust.
Anyways, after the two sluggings the ppm of alkalinity has gone down to 180, the ph is now down to 6.8. I don't want to do damage to the pool, i think i need to add more acid. Or i'm sure i need to add more acid...but i don't want to drop the ph any lower...should I up the ph with something like the Borax suggestion i've heard, or Baking Soda...then slug again??
I'm so lost, i need a pool boy.
