I've tried a few things and they work for about a day and then my car reverts to its former behavior. At random times my car's check engine light comes on and I lose horsepower. I've noticed that my temperature gauge doesn't rise very much. After we regapped the spark plugs, the car's temperature rose to where it should be and drove perfectly. This is a pretty good indication that the problem is part of my engine not warming up properly. My mechanic said that it isn't the thermostat, he checked it. Should I have him replace it anyway?
So far we've replaced the O2 sensor, Map Sensor, and regapped spark plugs.
I don't have a catalytic convertor and I have a whole in my muffler. I do hear backfire occasionally when the car acts up. I don't think it would affect it, but I'm out of ideas.
I can't find anything on the net, and my mechanic can't help me. If anyone has any idea, you have no idea how much you could help.
