my dad just bought a pontiac g8 gt and he wants to do a intake, but he thinks this will mess with the computer. anybody no anything about this?

An intake with a cone filter will be less restrictive than stock. however it will not mess with the computer as long as you don't change the distance from the Mass air flow sensor to the intake manifold. Your best to get a kit:

But as the guy above stated, it isn't going to do alot for you. I think the K&N kit for my G6 dyno tested at a little over 5hp increase which is as good as can be expcted for an intake.

Tell your dad that he doesn't know what he's doing.

I'll assume he wants to do a cold air intake.

In which case, tell him to look at the car's engine, as it already HAS a cold air intake.

The intake leads away from the hot air of the engine, to the cold air near the front of the car.

That's the definition of a cold air intake.

An aftermarket one won't mess with the computer, because the difference is so incredibly marginal, that it makes no difference at all.

At best, 1-2 horsepower.

Complete waste of money, since he's not giving the car anything it doesn't already have.

It won't be faster, it won't get better gas mileage.
