Pontiac G6 GT 3.5 and cruise control only works 1/2 the time?

I have a 2007 Pontiac G6 GT 3.5l and half the time the cruise control does not work. Sometimes I can be driving fine and the cruise control works no problem. But half the time it won't come on at all. What could be wrong? I have noticed sometimes that if it is not working if I do a "brake check" (ie slam on the brakes) it will start working.
 
If your car's an '07 and under 100k miles, take it to the shop. It should be under warranty still.
