...rear differential was bad, but...? and so was the alignment, which caused the need for two new tires. Total- 796 FROM THE LOCAL SHOP! Is this a rip off or does that sound right...

WHAT IS THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL AND WHAT WENT BAD? WOULD IT CAUSE THAT NOISE?
