Pontiac alternator on Chevy motor killing the battery?

I have a 76 Trans Am with a brand new Chevy 350 crate motor. But it has a Pontiac alternator on the motor. I just got the car over the weekend, and it the battery died right when I got it home. I checked the battery and saw the battery terminals were not tight at all, they were pretty loose and I figured that killed the battery. It's a brand new battery so I know that's not the problem. So I charged the battery, made sure the terminals were tight and getting good contact.

It didn't have any problems for about 2 days. Then I drove it, it sat for about 4 hours, when I got back in to start it, it was dead again. So I got a jump and came home. But! When I let it sit for those 4 hours, I didn't take the face off the stereo, and the stereo is wired so it doesn't shut off with the car. but the stereo was off. Do you think it could have pulled enough power in 4 hours to kill the battery?

And when I talked to the guy I got it from he said it was a Pontiac Alternator on the Chevy motor, and that it might give me some problems.

Help! I'm at a loss, and I don't want to drive somewhere and get stuck. Could it be the radio or the alternator? Or something completely different?
