I've investigated this a lot over the years, and nearly 80% of the U.S. is in favor of it, with some people in baptist christian crowds (comprising roughly 11%) forcing the child themselves to grab the belt, fold it and crack it before handing it to the parent for their beating.
I read this just the other day;
http://www.naturalchild.org/jan_hunt/tenreasons.html
I cant help but to wonder if the law needs to step down on this, or perhaps I am wrong? Should children be beaten?
All the answers so far sound like rationalizing. "It's not beating, it's spanking!" ...
This is why I beg the question; should the U.S. government put an end to this by the force of law? SPANKING ***IS*** BEATING!
Seriously, if I smacked you upside the face, is that not assault? I don't need closed fists to hurt you either physically or mentally, but if I claimed that it was for your own good, would it not be a beating because I said it wasn't?
Something just like this happened to me once when I was 19, a cop just bopped me on the head with a flashlight cause I was arguing with him. Nobody saw a big deal out of it until two years later when I won a $40,000 lawsuit. You can rationalize violence all you want, but it is what it is.
*** BUT MY QUESTION IS WHETHER VIOLENCE - IN WHATEVER WAY YOU CALL IT - SHOULD BE LEGALLY ALLOWED AGAINST CHILDREN ***
