In his mind he thinks that if the cartoon character Dumbo (an elephant that can fly) was out in space for some weird reason, Dumbo could not breathe and still be able to live!! In a parallell universe where nearly everything is possible that is.....
I think that in order to say that something is living (even if it is just a cartoon character), that the creature in question would have the ability to breathe!! What do you think??
