Police officers and military?????????

Hi im thing of doing rotc for the army, then going in the guard. And becoming a cop. Is it true that many police officers have a military background? Also does being an Army officer help in anyway?

There are two advantages. First, you will receive veterans preference points, so you will have the edge on those who do not have military experience.

Secondly, there are many similarities that make the transition from military to law enforcement such as wearing the uniform, being able to handle stress, being able to take orders, recognizing a formal chain of command, and a formal rank structure.
