I am a composer who is looking to write some kind of a work (preferably some sort of song cycle) about addiction. I am looking for sources of quotes, experiences, and especially poetry about addiction from the addicted person's perspective. I am not looking for corny rhyming poetry or anything like that, but rather the raw emotions, perceptions, and if possible, polish of a solid writer/poet. After some searching, I am just not finding anything. I would really appreciate some help from you literary experts or addiction sufferers both past and present.
