So long as the original work is not republished in any form under your name (Plagiarized) you are fine.

It is permitted to use a line or phrase. Many writers of poetry and of music do this. The work may resemble the original but one has to be careful that is is not deemed to be to close to the original work.

Hi, I have found some great poetry but was wondering how the copyright works.

I speak and record a lot of my own poems and would like to do the same with some of the poems I have found.

I put the poems I speak on YouTube and also on my blog. If I spoke these poems and did the same would I run into copyright issues? I do not sell or will ever sell these poems that I may speak

Most of the poems are very very old and this is part of my question. If the poems are past a certain date do they have a copyright that can be backed up with any legal action? Or does poetry of say past 1950 have can clause that means I can use it for my reasons?

Sorry if you don't understand what I am asking :(
EDIT:
Thats a very good question pocks. I do not know how it works with singing others songs and if that could come into any legal action?
I would always give full credit for everything. I would never steal work or say anything I did not write is my own.
