So a few weeks ago, i was just messing around online, and i entered a poem in a contest at poetry.com.
Then today when i got home from school(i'm 14), my dad told me I had mail from 'some poetry thing'. here is what the note said:
"Dear Theater = love,
After carefully reading and discussing your poem, our Selection Committee has certified your poem as a semi-finalist in our international Open Poetry Contest. Your poem will automatically be entered into the final Competition held December 2008. As a semi-finalist, you now have an excellent chance of winning 1 of 104 chash or gift prizes -- including the $100,000 Grand prize. You may even win the $10,000 annual Grand Prize! We wish you the best of luck as you compete for these prizes in the coming weeks. ( a complete list of prizes is enclosed)
and that's not all..."
and then they went on to try and sell me a book that they'd print my poem in. Now the book, I've read online about and I get that that's a scam, but it's fine because i wouldn't want that anyway. What about the contest though? Is that a scam? I mean, i Guess i don't really care, either way, i only entered it because winning a thousand dollars would help my family out a lot. but I'm fine with not winning. Should i cut contact off with this company and not send back my edited poem? ( they sent a thing just to check for typos and such)
My dad looked at all of the stuff they sent, and didn't have any suspisions, but I've got a wild imagination, so i just wanted to check and be sure.
I'm looking for answers from people who have had the same situation with poetry.com
thanks so much.
