For english class we had to choose an artist (i choose an architect, same thing) and write a poem about him. I really need some help on this because i can't get my message across which is:
The gateway bridge is a portal to the west (it made to commemorate the Louisiana purchase). The West was a time in our history of expansion and the ideal that America was unbeatable (Manifest Destiny). This is represented by the arch (its the tallest structure in America) as it tried to extend a silver thread to heaven (God) but failed and arched back down as that perfection is unobtainable.
Any criticism / help is appreciated.
A portal cast in silver gold stood yearningly toward me
Its arms expanded toward the West
Toward Manifest Destiny
The metal sheen, sculpt of fallible desire
Hands quelled from the virgin earth
To surge a spindle spire
In spite it fell, bowed down to His edict
Like a wave repressed by kingly currents
For their dream to be perfect
ahem Gateway Arch**
