Poem explication

I was recently assigned a poem explication as my first English paper for the new year, the only problem is I do not know how to explicate a poem. In the past I have relied on bullshit with a minor hint of rewriting the question to get me by but such a thing will not work now that there is written guideline or concrete question I have to search for. The largest problem is the explication is due this friday. If you know how to explicate a poem or know of a way I can sidestep this issue I would be very appreciative.

First impressions are lasting and I would rather my teacher didn't think of me as an idiot.
