Most types of lying I will never, ever condone,
but this was a completely different kind of lie.
I rocked my peaceful baby to sleep for the last time,
'Cause deep down in my denial-filled heart I knew;
Tomorrow would be the last day she'd believe that line,
No matter what I desperately say or what I try to do.
Truth is, I found out that yesterday Daddy got killed.
An Iraqi soldier pulled the trigger out of hate;
And believe me baby, this isn't what God willed...
Daddy tried to clean his wound, but it was already too late.
The other half of me now lays in a shallow grave made of dirt;
and I wish with my all that this didn't have to be..
and Allie darling I know this will always hurt;
but for both of us I hope you'll always have me.
Our family won't be destroyed by a metal bullet casing;
and I know how this burns, but we'll make it out alive..
and now even though all our fears we're facing;
your Daddy would want us to thrive.
