Please tell me about the ford ranger... honestly.?

I really want a small truck for daily use. I've been looking into the Ford Ranger. I know that people say that ford is bad but if you own a ranger please tell me about it. I would possibly want to do a little offroading(Not extreme), but just something simple. Any particular year i should get? how reliable? How does it handle? Is it any fast? I also heard that manual ransmission is alot better. Any help? Talk to me... Thanks!
