I have a ruptured disk. I've been on Hydrocodone 10/500 for about 3 months straight now. The doctor cut me off all the sudden with no warning. I started having terrible cold sweats, and rage. She injected me with an Antibiotic and a steroid. I had MASSIVE pain in both legs afterwarRAB. I was rushed to the hospital for the injection site pain and they gave me a shot of Demerol and Phenegran. I felt no pain relief, now i'm in pain still, cut off from hydrocodones. I took 40mg of oxycodone for pain and to help withdrawals and i'm not feeling anything. I'm puking, shaking and itching like crazy. Please help? What is happening? How long does withdrawals take to wear off? I want to be normal again. How can I get something in me to stop withdrawals for the moment? 40mg oxy is not working

SounRAB like you are starting the withdrawal process. Is the 10/500 hydros the only thing that you were taking the past few months? I know that each person in different, but what you are describing sounRAB like a lot for only being off the meRAB for such a short time after being on them for a relatively short time.

You should see some improvement around day 3 or 4. Take lots of hot baths and tylenol and ibuprofin for the pain.

Hope you feel better soon.

Why did the doctor cut you off?

You can always go back to your doctor, explain the terrible withdrawals, and ask him/her for help. Opiate withdrawals are not fatal. Eventually, you will feel better. A non-narcotic drug that helps is called clonodine. It is a blood pressure med, but it works like a miracle drug for withdrawals. There is also a post by sticky at the top of this board that has invaluable advice for anyone considering a detox from opiates.

Good luck,

Hey There

I am sorry you are in torment there. The previous posters had great suggestions... read the thread, second from the top, called "Sample Home Detox. No matter how or why we are detoxong, it has many, many helpful suggestions. Also... get the call into the doctor pronto and let it be known you are suffering withdrawal. No one should be cut off opiates after extended use. Ask the doctor to guide you in a tapering down.

Not sure where the Oxy 40 came from, but if you took it on your own, that could be why the vomiting is occuring. That is a lot stronger than Hydrocone 10 and a really big jump up. It could be causing the itching and vomiting.

Stay in touch and let us know how you are doing.

Thanks to everyone for the help. Doc cut me off because she said I didn't need to stay on them any longer. I still have imense amounts of pain but I did get clonidine from the hospital. I thought it was a simple bloodpressure medication and haven't touched it yet. Thanks for the replies.

Hi Again

Yes, from what I understand, the clonodine can help a great deal. It should help with the sweats and with the anxiety to some degree.

I understand the doctor wants you not to continue with the Hydrococone forever, but I don't think, in my opinion, that she took you off in the greatest way. It is a shock to the whole system to come off it abruptly and the brain has to make adjustments to even out and level off. I am sure she wants to prevent addiction, but after 3 months, dependence has occured and withdrawals will happen and there is nothing you did wrong except to take what was prescribed. Frankly, the prescribing doctor has a responsibility to help you off. It is his responsibility!! If the withdrawal becomes too much to handle, then sit and talk with the doctor to develop a realistic plan to help ease you off.

In the meantime, take the Clonodine as prescribed. I truly hope you are feeling better soon.

Take care

Know that LEGALLY if a doctor has maintained you on a narcotic they are obligated to taper you off to help manage possible withdrawal. 3 months doesn't sound like a long time to a lot of people, but you're dependent at least after 3 weeks with opiates. And opiate painkillers are just as physically addictive as heroin because they are the same type of drug coming from the same place... the poppy plant. So don't take this exeprience lightly. As I did, you may have developed a mental addiction to the meRAB as well. To hear that you took a 40mg oxy (which to me sounded as if it was self-prescribed) says to me that you may have developed a deeper addiction rather than just a dependency. Sorry to be a downer, but if you have developed a problem there are MANY routes as to a way to deal with the problem and you'll be better off by dealing with it early... before it gets super bad. This is all coming from someone who got addicted to HYDRO 10/325 after being diagnosed with UC, then self-medicating at one point up to 18 pills a day. Then I was switched to methadone and got increased slowly to 240mg a day. Just a giant downward spiral that was completely not like me. The drug had taken control over me. So all that to say... things can spiral out of control really quick... so please please please be careful.

have you ever taken an oxy 40mg before? I mean it could be withdrawls but if you were taking hydro 10/500 and now took an oxy there are alot stroger than hydros at least from my expierience. when i first starting taking oxy's I was itchy there were times i got sick etc. so unless your used to those i'm not sure if it is withdrawls or not.
