For about two weeks now everyday I experience an itchy throat and a horrible strong cough that won't go away. It started with just a cough and itchy throat, then I developed flu like symptoms, then the flu like symptoms went away, but the cough and itchy throat stayed. I cough so hard I gag and I get no more than 2 hours of sleep a night because the cough keeps me up and my husband. I thought it may have been allergies and I just happened to get sick on top of them because my whole family had flu like symptoms when I did. I am at the point where I dont want to leave my house anymore because I can't stop coughing. I have tried several typres of otc allergy meRAB, cough syrup, cough pills, nasal decongestants and nothing has worked. I was diagnosed with asthma when I was younger, but haven't had any symptoms in 10 years. I also have a constant stuffy nose which is causing post nasal drip. I am a smoker, but not a heavy smoker. I smoke maybe 3 cigarettes a day, (trying to quit.) Can anyone offer me any advice? I am a 24 yr old homemaker with two young children, and my husband is in the NAVY so I need to be able to sleep so I can take care of them throughout the day correctly. I have always had throat irritation like this growing up but only when I had a cold, but it has never been this bad or this long.

If it's been two weeks and it isn't getting better, it's probably worth getting it checked out. This time of year, it could be related to grass allergy, it could be that the asthma came back, (allergies and a cold together could definitely do that!) but if it's bothering you this much for this long, go to your doctor.
