it depends which is the bottom

40*20+2(20*10)+2(40*10)
this is the method if 40*20 is the bottom becuase if this was a box, the top would be missing
20000/450=4.4444444...
5 gallons of paint cans

is 40x20x10 feet deep.? One gallon of paint covers 450 square feet. how many gallons are required to paint the pool ? please helpp fastt!!!!

Length= 40

Width= 20

height= 10

Bottom of the pool and the 4 walls need to be painted.

Bottom is (length)(width0 (40)(20)= 800 square feet

Short side is (width)(height) (20)(10) 200 square feet. There are two short sides so 400 square feet.

Long side is (length)(height) (40)(10) 400 square feet. There are two long sides so 800 square feet.

The total amount of square feet that need to be painted are 800+ 400+ 800= 2000 square feet.

Now we can set up a proportion:

gallons/square feet

1/450= x/2000

We cross multiply to get 450x= 2000

Divide by 450 to get x= 4.444... gallons.

4 part answer

A. Base
40x20 is the base so take the answer to that multiplication and it gives you the square feet.
divide it by 450 square feet (quantity a gallon covers) and you get how many you need for the base

B. Small Wall same idea BUT with one change
height is 10
length is 20
10x20 gives you square footage, divide by 450

there are two sides exactly the same so you multiply this answer by 2.

C. Large wall
height is 10
length is 40
10x40 gives you square footage, divide by 450

once again 2 sizes the same so multiply by 2

D. Add the answer of A. B. C. tells you how many gallons
easiest to look at questions like this into more manageable shapes
