Please help with cheap replacement options for my cell phone?

I recently dropped my phone in a glass of water (million to one shot) and the thing is completely dead. Luckily my simcard survived. Does anyone know, can I buy any old phone that's compatible with ATT (a GoPhone) for example, and just replace the sim card and use that phone? I am really in a pickle here and can't afford another smart phone. Thanks
