please help.son has a tibia lesion????

hi thankyou all for have a look.
i took my son to hospital to have an xray on his ankle.to which they pretty much ignored as the found a lesion on his tibia.we looked at the xray and it looked like something had eaten away at his bone .im pressing this to be investigated as im so concerned that his bone could just snap and the possibility its cancerous.my faith in my local health authority are rapidly dissapearing as a whole week had gone by and they hadnt referrred him tillthe day i rang is this also normal, and now we are just waiting to see orthapedics, its been a fortnight.PLease any advice as im going out of my mind with worry as he is complaing of pains and fatigue etc.

Thanks again:confused:

I'm sorry to hear your family is going through this.

Yes, this is something you need to investigate, and yes, you should continue to pester people until your son gets in to see a good orthopedist. No one cares about your son as much as you do, so you will need to be his advocate as you negotiate the system.

I won't lie to you, some bone lesions are the result of cancer. Many are not. The only way to tell for sure is a biopsy, though a doctor with a lot of experience in this area can tell whether a serious disease is likely or unlikely based on the x-ray image. A biopsy should be performed as soon as possible.

If it is benign, it will probably be removed anyway, to relieve his pain and allow the bone to return to normal.

When is the next appointment?

hi thankyou for responding,

friday the lady that deals with putting the referrals through wasnt in.so monday i will ring to chase it up.

how will they remove a tumour that has eaten away his bone??and do infections eat away bones???

also i responded to a lady on here regarding lymph nodes as 5 years ago he was hospitalised with his and we still done know what that was, since then he complains daily of back pain rib pain, generally unwell with something,he had great days then bad days and to be honest when i saw the lesion,in a way i thought thank gog maybe we will get some answers as to why hes always in some discomfort.
i will post when we finally get appointment.
Thanks again

Could be infection, could be something called a bone cyst, I can't say. But I hope they figure it out soon, and his other symptoms too.

Usually a bone infection is just in the marrow, though (osteomyelitis.) And it would be pretty weird for a healthy young man to spontaneously get osteomyelitis, it tends to happen after stuff like an broken bone that went through the skin.

we took him back for another xray yesterday as he is still feeling alot of pain in his ankle,we saw another picture which showed two fibrous cortex???on his ankle.and yet two weeks ago im sure the other one was further up his shin.the hospital doctor said his lesions are nothing to worry about.im in one way feeling better as they have said not to worry and in the way feeling more worried as he has three on one leg.
he had never broke in that leg or ever injured it that bad.im probably worrying as for five years since his lymp nodes hes had problems with clotting and he got diagnosed with scoliosis as his back always hurts, then a doctors said he hasnt,he sufers rib pain which he had a scan of spleen at the time which showed nothing. What if he has lesions on these bones too??
Thanks again for chatting i really appreciate it very much.
