I'm starting to become really frustrated with something that developed about last April. I've been experiencing bouts of what I guess you could call, "Shortness of breath." I am continually needing to yawn, and sometimes it feels like I can't take a deep breath. Sometimes it gets so bad that it makes me extremely frustrated.

I had to go to the emergency room once for this because I was scared. They did a lung X-ray, EKG test of some sort, blood test... at the end of my 3 hours the doctor told me that he thinks it is just anxiety.

I've talked to my main doctor and he has said the same thing to me. At this point, I'm really not buying it and I don't know what to do.

I've been trying to tweak just about everything I can in my daily life to see what will improve my symptoms... so far nothing seems to be really giving me any sort of solid confidence.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and what they have found helps or cures this problem.

Thanks

YES! This is what made me go to the dr one time. And then to the ER another time. This was my first anxiety symptom. And when I look back, I remeraber other bouts of shortness of breath for perioRAB of time before I was diagnosed.

This is totally anxiety. You have had the necessary tests done, which is proof its not something else.

As long as your O2 levels are fine, you are breathing fine! Its literally all in our heaRAB.

Do you still get this? Have you learned some sort of way to calm it down? Please let me know about anything that has helped you.

It is so strange... I woke up today and I taught all my classes today, and it was nearly gone! After I took a nap for a couple hours... it is back! I wish I could predict what triggers it

Yup! I've had it for 6 months now and it's total agony. I've had blood tests that were fine. I've been to a pulmonologist and done a half dozen tests. The overnight pulse ox DID show that my oxygen levels dropped several times during the night to 80. (normal at my elevation is 93-99. Anything below that is cause for concern) I was put on oxygen at night. Then I went to a cardiologist and had an echo and heart cath, My heart is very healthy as well as my lungs. I had an upper GI which showed my hernia hadn't changed. I have yet to get an endoscopy because they were waiting to make sure my heart was fine before they put me under.

We then went the anxiety route and now I'm taking .5 Niravam 3x a day. It's not helping the breathing but I'm not suicidal any more or freaking out from trying to catch my breath. It's not too bad at home with the central air, but go outside in the warm air and humidity...forget it. I feel like I'm gonna die.

I see my pulmonologist next and my PCP wants him to put me on a 24 hr pulse ox because when he had me on one in the office for like 60 seconRAB it fluxuated quickly. So when those results come back the next tests will be on my brain. I'm assuming an MRI.

So I'm still looking for an answer. I would offer this advice... try anxiety meRAB. even if it doesn't help your shortness of breath it will keep you calm and not freak out about it. That makes it so much worse I believe. Good luck and let us know if you find the cause!

I actually don't get the shortness of breath too much anymore. My anxiety has manifested itself in different ways now. Now I get dizziness/vertigo instead. Which I feel is way worse!!!

Nothing really stopped the anxiety until I went on Prozac. From that, I was able to go to some support group sessions, start exercising again and learn deep breathing techniques.

You may never know what triggers your anxiety. Thats why they call it Generalized Anxiety Disorder. There really is no root to the cause, it just appears one day.
