Okay first off I'm a senior in high school and applying to colleges is underway. I'm worried about filing my FAFSA, because FAFSA needs a SSN. Does it take a long time for SSN to be given to me if I apply? How long does that process usually take?
NOW to heart of the question: When I came here to California, my visa type was V-3, as a child taken in under my parent who has permanent residence. But FAFSA needs me to have a green card for me to be eligible. Throughout my 6 years in the U.S., my dad has not fixed my status to permanent resident, and the application window for financial aid is looming around the corner -- I still have my V-3 visa. I don't think I will have enough time to actually get a green card (FAFSA files from Jan 1. - Mar 2.) I really want to go to university. So I need some kind of assistance, pls. ;(

First thing you'll have to do is get a SS number. The FAFSA will not process without one. Go to your local SS Office, it is a pretty easy process.

And secondly, you WILL NOT be eligible for ANY Federal or State financial aid until your citizenship status is either resident national or alien resident. The FAFSA will not process without this information.
