Explain why how something that is not connected to the ground is able to keep up with the moving earth.

frictional and gravitational forces helps a thing not connected to the ground to keep up with earth,s rotation and revolution respectively.

an object in motion will continue to move until an external force acts upon it. Alternatively, an object resting will continue resting until acted upon.

So, if the object in question was sped up to the same speed as the earth, it would continue, until gravity changes this.

Help you much?
