I'm relatively new to my Tungten T3. It's my first palm and I love it - though I am still in the learning curve. I downloaded a bunch of freeware into it this morning and after the Hot Sync I keep getting ...

Fatal Alert
Emul68K Common.c,
Line:527, Odd Address
Reset

I of course Reset several times only to have this return. Please, if anyone could lend a suggestion I would much appreciate.

Regards,
Jim

The problem you got is surely caused by softwares, some of them may not work together. I guess it's mostly caused by HACKs,if you had install them. Your problem lasts until you remove those softwares.
The hardreset allows you clear all the things in the RAM, including your personal data. After that, your handheld will be back to the default status. Then you clear your palm data on your PC, excluding your own data, if not, those softwares will be back to the handheld after next hotsync.
Then, you reinstall softwares one by one, until the problem occur again, the last software you install is the one cost the problem.

Don't know how to hardreset? That's OK! Here is the Way:
press and hold the power bottom, the use the styles to poke the reset hole, when asked if it is ok to clear all the data, choose yes.

Hope this could help!:)

you know where you install your palm desktop in your PC? go to the directory, and delete the files in this directory ..\palm\your hotsync name here\backup

or you can just enable the PC only hotsync the Address etc. then those personal data should be in your palm, the you can delete (not uninstall, cuz that won't delete the backup things) the whole directory ..\palm\

Do i make myself clear? you can just have a try.;)

DON'T delete the files in your backup directory! You'll lose all the programs and data you have on your Palm. What you want to do is move the contents of the backup folder to a new folder and then sync. Your calendar and contacts data should be restored and you can then go to the moved backup folder and restore programs from there. If you sort the backup data by date, you should be able to tell which files where the last installed and not reinstall any of those files until you know your Palm is working correctly.

Before you install any new programs, it's much safer to do a backup to your SD card. If something goes wrong with a new program, it's reasonably easy to restore your Palm from the SD card without messing up your backup files on the PC. It's also a good idea to only install one program at a time so you know for sure which program has caused a problem.

I fully agree with Jim Cooke. I also experience crashes with some new softwares on my T3, but it only happens with that software and does not affect the others. I try it once again, and if it crashes again, then I remove the software and inform the developer.

Install applications one by one, as Jim advised, so you'll know when it starts happening (and easily pinpoint the culprit). Hard reset is not suggested when that happens since it is a very messy and risky (I sometimes lose data & registration information on bought softares). Do this only when all your other softwares are affected.

Infrequent crashes also happen with other softwares, but I have lived with that (especially if these are random ones, and not repeated when I do the same functions). I use "CrashPro" software to automatically soft reset my T3 in such instances (saves me a lot of steps).

Well, copy the backup directory is a good idea, and sort by data is even better. But Jim Cooke, you say that delete the backup content will lose all the data, i'd not agree with you. The content of backup only backups the software you installed before, your personal data is saved in other directory.

Or maybe i misremebered, Jim, are you sure delete it will lose all the data including personl one?

Anyway, delete the directory is not a good idea, compare with copy it to other content.

Deleting the backup folder contents will delete all applications and data (pdb) files contained therein. I looked at the contents of my directory and saw that all my current data files are there.

There will be no problem if you delete these without "hard resetting" your handheld, since the handheld data will be copied back to that directory. But because of the hard reset, there will be no data to copy to the directory. All data will be lost.

The archive file will be of no use, since it "archives" (moves) only applications and data present in the backup folder during hot sync but removed in the handheld. This is a safety feature for accidental deletions in the handheld. The hard reset removes all data in the handheld, and there will also be no data in the backup folder to move to archive.

Be safe - copy the backup folder to another directory, install the softwares, and re-install the pdb files from that directory back to the handheld.

As I wrote previously, all registration information on purchased softwares will need to be entered again. This will be messy. For my suggestions, please refer to my previous posts.

Regards.
