Ok So I am a 22 year old female and I hurt my lower back at work In Oct. of 08. I have been throw so much since then including.... MRI's, EMG's, PT for almost a year now, 3 Epidural Injections, Facet Joint Blocks on right and left side, Discogram, Ct Scans, and now I am going to get a Nucleoplasty some time soon. The doctor's haven't really siad what my diagnosis is beside, buldging disc L5 S1, Herniated Disc L5 S1, Disintegrated Disc L5 S1 you get my point they are saying I have so many things wrong with this one disc. I dont know what to do anymore. I have been on meRAB but after so long my body get used to them and they have no affect anymore. I have my own TENS unit but same as the meRAB my body just got used to it. I have been in chronic pain this pass year. And dont know what else to do. So if anyone has any ideas please let me know.... Also has anyone had a Nucleoplasty? I have heard it helps for a little bit a couple weeks then the pain comes right back? also the restrictions i have heard are like no driving the first 2 week, bed rest the first week.......:(:(:(

First of all, your Bulging/Herniated/Disintegrated Disc all mean the same thing.. essentially a portion of your disc is compressing the neve which is causing pain... i had been suffereing from teh same for the last 18 months and tried nucleoplasty amongst other things, including chiropractors, osteopaths, ozone injection, pilates, etc..
My diagnosis was similar to yours.. Nucleoplasty did not really work for me.. if anything i felt a mild increase in pain around the ankle area and gave up the hope for recovering through these means... it is a relatively new form of treatment and works in about 30% of the cases..

i recently had surgery (6 weeks ago), which can by no means be termed a success yet as i continue to have nerve pain.. however, my surgeon, who is very experienced and well respected told me that if your pain has not responded to conservative treatment for 9 months, surgery is typically the best way to go..

wish you the best.. hope nucleoplasty works for you
