Please Help!!!!..mother stops breathing out of no where????

Hello I am a newbie to site, I have searched all night for some answers and I came across this website, Thank God...

Please someone give me some advice on what to do or am i just over reacting? Last night as we were watching t.v. my mother who is 56yrs old just stopped breathing. it almost was as if she was choking but she had nothing in her mouth nor was she talking or anything. all of a sudden she just started gasping for air I immediately stood up and gave her water but she couldn't even talk or nothing, within seconds she turned blue begining at the lips and all the face, I called 911 while i was on the phone she was giving my signs to help her, :confused: she stuck her own two finger in her mouth to see if she could throw up but nothing then i gave her the hemlich manuever 3 times and all 3 times she would like give a fake burb or cough....

please can someone give me an explanation??? very nervous, i thought i was going to lose my mother...:(
 
well when i called 911 they told me that the ambulance was coming out to check her even though she had started breathing, what do you know when the ambulance arrived to my house the took their sweet loving time outside had to chat with the other ambulance people then when the did finally did come inside to see her they didn't even touch her or anything....they all looked at each other and they left, can you believe it!!!!

She was awake when this whole ordeal started with her stopped breathing,,,,we were just sitting watching t.v. is that so crazy??
 
I suggest she see a neurologist as it could be nervous system related. Certain parts of the nervous system control automatic functions such as breathing, any little problem with this could cause an effect like that. Make sure the doctor goes over any and all medications and supplements she takes including OTCs.
