Please help me figure out my boyfriend's illness

Hi, this is a bit of a long shot but here goes...For the last three and a half years my boyfriend's immune system has been very low. As a result he constantly picks up colds and bugs etc. He never ever feels 100% He also suffers from a balance disorder caused by a virus in his ear that initially caused him to black out (because his ear could no longer complete it's balancing function his eyes compensated for this but the strain became too much - hence the blackout). He has physio exercises to correct this but it constantly returns. At the time we didn't know what was causing it so he had brain scans which all came back clear. His illnesses mean that he had to leave his job because he was frequently having to take time off. He has now retrained but is fearful that he won't be able to hold on to a new job if he continues to get ill all the time. He has been to both an NHS doctor and a private doctor, who after the brain scans and also blood tests have assured him that there is nothing wrong with him. Being told he is fine when he clearly isn't is very frustrating and worrying. It is debilitating his life. He has suffered depression as a result and has stopped taking antidepressants in the last six months - he was on them for two years. He also received cognitive therapy for this. I am worried he is slipping back into depression. Does anyone have any ideas of what could be the cause or of any alternative places to seek advice? It would be greatly appreciated. We don't know which way to turn. Please note I am not asking about his ear balance but his susceptibility to illness: his constant headaches, sickness and fatigue; the fact he gets a cold ridiculously frequently; if he has a night out and doesn't even drink he feels rubbish for the whole of the next day. He is 31 and exercises and eats a healthy diet.

Sorry but I can't help you with his low immunity but he may get some help seeing a Naturopath. I had a virus in my ear many years ago, my G.P. prescribed something, I can't remember what it was, but it is what they treat vertigo with. He said that he doesn't know why but sometimes if you can rid yourself of the symptoms of the virus, the virus goes away. I took the medication for 2 weeks, it had horrible side effects, headache, nausea. It worked, but I was left with slight hearing loss and tinitis. I hope your boyfriend is feeling better soon.

Any autoimmune or primary immune disease could cause lowered immunity but the most common cause of weakened immunity is chronic stress, which it sounds like he has in spades.

Chronic stress also causes depression. And by that I mean chronic stress causes real physical changes both in the body and brain - not that stress makes you "feel unhappy".

Does he have any other symptoms that might suggest an immune disorder? Was he sick alot as a kid? Lots of skin infections? Fungal infections? Any arthritis? Lower back pain? Dry eyes or mouth?
