I am hoping to get some advice from other violin teachers on what they use for fun beginning theory. Or possibly even parents who have purchased theory books for their children.

I am considering Mel Bay's "Violin Theory for Children" by Melanie Smith. Also "Violin Theory for Beginners" by Dorothy Croft. I believe there are Books 1 and 2 for both of these options. Has anyone used these?

I wish I could remember what theory book I used when I was a young violin student. I think if I saw the cover of it I might remember!

Any suggestions will help. Thank you so much

Mel Bay's series on violin theory is certainly the most popular. The company writes for various instruments, but all of my beginner and intermediate books are from Mel Bay, and I didn't have any trouble with them. Of course, mine are all dated from the 1970s, but I just looked them up and they have a broad selection of newer material.

Good luck.
