Y'all, I really need advice. I normally post on other sections on the board but I am in tears tonight and that is why I'm posting here.

I saw a new Dr. today and told him about the back pain I was having. So, he examined me and told me that he felt muscle spasms in the lower left of my back. Xrays were taken and reviewed and he said that I was really "tight" in my L5/S1 area but didn't say much about my disk. He has ordered an MRI and I go back to see him in three weeks.

He gave me a muscle relaxer and anti-inflam. meRAB that aren't doing squat. Oh my god, I can't take this pain! I don't normally take strong pain medications (last time was back in Oct. after surgery) but I feel like begging like a dog for something - a shot, anything to relieve me right now.

I can't hardly walk, my leg is going nurab, my hip hurts, my back has locked up twice since Thursday, I can't sit at work and have missed 2 days of work, I can't do anything with my kiRAB - I mean, I am about to go crazy with this pain.

Should I find another Doctor that can give me some relief or should I wait for the results of the MRI? I don't know if I can make it another day with this pain, much less 3 more weeks!

What does he mean by being "tight" in my L5/S1 area? He didn't elaborate.

Thank you!

You can truly just goto the er if it's impossible for you tonight, truly, I've had flares I've had to and I know how you feel wholeheartedly.

The MRI is all you've got to see whats going on, results usually take about 2-3 days to get back. sometimes less.

Lay on your side, or back in bed, use some ice on your lower back.

If you're on your back put a pillow under your knees so your back is more cusioned on the bed, if you're on your side, put int between your knees and prop one behind you to comfort you, and another infront of you so you don't sag foward and just don't move.

If you aren't on anything at all, take some anti inflammatories that are over the counter.

Truly I know how bad it is, and you will haveto lay for an hour or so before and slight sign of relief comes, and sometimes it's so minimal but it's better than when you're terrible. If you are really hardly mobile tonight and crying I would goto the ER they will give you some steroiRAB IV probably and some pain medicines and some muscle relaxers that will help. I've had to do it I know.

And the more upset and stressed you get, the 10x worse the pain gets just from your body tensing up and you don't even know it's doing it, I know it's beyond ridiculous for me to tell you to relax, BUT just lay if you don't goto the ER and just take some deep breaths and try to get the muscles not tense.

Are you seeing a spinal orthopedic surgeon or neurosurgeon? If so, call them and let them know the symptoms and level of pain you are experiencing. If not, and if your regular doctor won't prescribe pain meRAB, an emergency room may be your only source for pain relief.
