Please help if u work at ATT or if u just know?

I got my iphon only a few months ago but I've been wanting to get the iPhone 5 when it comes. My dad said he dosent think ATT will let me get a new one since mime is not a year ol yet. I think u might have to pay more or something and what is an upgrade.please clear all this out. Thank u
