Hello,

I have a problem controlling my crying, and I am going back to work in the morning. My husband and I have been married 40 years and about 2 weeks ago he had a triple by-pass heart surgery. He is home and I have been taking care of him as well as my daughter. (She is 5 weeks post-op from back surgery). My husband is improving each day and with my daughter being here, I am returning to work today. The problem now, is that when ever I get with peolpe, like go shopping, or when I visited my job for just a short time today, I break out crying, especially when someone ask about how my husband is doing. I have taken Paxil 20 mg for several years and I take 10 mg in am and 10 in pm.
I called my Dr. today and told him what was going on and he called me in Buspar 5mg to take 3x a day as needed. Has anyone taken these together before? Would it be better to just up my Paxil for awhile until I get through this, and not take the Buspar? I can't get too "loopy" at work because I work in security. I don't like not being in control of my emotions like this. Also, taking off more work is not an option for me because I've missed too much already.

I would start focusing on the positive - your husband is getting better everyday and you are helping him every step of the way. About 10 years ago, my doctor wanted to put me on buspar for generalized anxiety. I didn't not want to be put on medicine because it made me feel out of it. I started to meditate, read books about anxiety, I attended support groups and walked daily. I never cured myself but I controlled it. I still have my times of stress and it comes back but I know what to do with the feelings. Right now I am doing acupuncture, meditation and some yoga. I know some people need to go on medicine but maybe you join a support group and share your feelings. You have been through so much stress and this will give you opportunity to express how you feel with others who have gone through the same thing. Maybe look for group in your area like the hospital. They always have classes or groups.

I have taken Buspar in the past and as far as I know, Buspar is not a “take as needed” medication. You take it daily in the prescribed dose and it takes a couple of weeks before you see the full benefits from it. Taking Paxil and Buspar together is not a problem, but you will probably get the best results from the Buspar if you take it daily, rather than “as needed”. Also, Buspar does not make you "loopy" and it is not sedating.
