Ok, My daughter had a small tank that just had the bubbles going inside of it, I put the water conditioner in it & She bought 6 feeder guppies and a $5 guppie. The $5 dollar guppie and 3 of the feeder guppies died. So I went and bought her a 5 gallon tank, That has the filter connected and put the water conditioner in it (Amont said on the bottle) and let it sit for 24hrs. We went and got 2 more of the more expensive guppies and 3 feeders, I let the bag sit in the water for 20mins like I was told. I come home tonight from work and there is one of the expensive ones dead and the other one is like so weak that it's almost getting sucked in by the filter thing. What am I doing wrong? Please help, My Daughter is 7yrs old and all these fish dying are breaking her little heart. Thank you!

I agree with the other commenters.

It takes a while to condition the water sometimes, and if by chance you're using the same water- there might be a PH imbalance or high ammonia content. Test kits for this are fairly inexpensive, and you could buy the proper chemicals to treat the water.

You could also take in a sample of water to your local pet store, and they could tell you what the water needs to balance it out.

Hopefully the filter just needs a little time to clean up the water and get started. Getting started with fish isn't easy, but once you get comfortable with the maintenance and cleaning it's not too bad.

Good luck.

The problem in the beginning was there are too many fish in the tank not to have a filtration system. All fish need to have a filtration system even if it is as simple as using charcoal. Nitrates & Nitrite build-up in the water is the most likely cause of their deaths. The second problem is introducing too many fish too quickly. For the fish to live and thrive you need to let the water "cure". Start off with 1-2 fish to get the water ready for more. Hope that makes sense.

Get this: Tetra Aquasafe (water conditioner I use), Mardel Maracyn, and Marden Maracide < some treatments for fish, from your local pet store. I always put these in my water and I have had goldfish who have lived for almost eight years!
