Please help dont know what this means?

Mind you this is after my disc replacement surgery of L5-S1

Also before my injury i NEVER had a PROBLEM HEALTH WISE IN MY LIFE!!!



I reviewed a St. Anthony's report of CT post myelogram of the lurabar spine dated June 11, 2009, which documents, "2 mm. diffuse disc bulges L2-3 and L3-4. 3mm. Diffuse disc bulge L4-5." The myelogram report states, "Small central ventral extradural defects L2-3, L3-4, and L4-5. Surgical disc fusion at L5-S1."






I reviewed a note by Ravi Shitut, MD, dated June 12, 2009, which documents, "lurabar myelography with CT....has an L5-S1 disc prosthesis which looks to be in good anatomical location. There is no neural compromise at the level of his disc replacement, which is L5-S1....His MRI scan at the proximal levels was normal and his EMG/nerve conduction studies showed chronic right L4-L5 radiculopathy without denervation....next step....would be a selective right L5 nerve root injection.":confused:
 
Once you have a spinal problems and spine surgery it is common for other problems to occur. Any spine surgery you have alters your biomechanics (the way you move and how your body bears weight and movement). And, with all of us, the normal aging process can cause changes. If you had the exact same examination before you could compare the two reports. Please keep in mind that two radiologists looking at the same CT or MRI would possibly find different things or at least verbalize them differently. Only your physician can address how different and/or how significant the current findings are.

I'm sorry I don't have any answer for you about your reports, there are some awesome people who have undergone the surgery and will be able to decipher your reports better for you.

I noticed that you had you surgery at St. Anthonys, was that in Crown Point Indiana?

I live in Indiana and that is where my husband will be having his surgery and I'm wondering who your surgeon was?

He will be operated on by Charles Chuman and Dr. Kucharczyk

There really is no sure way to tell if your previous installment of an artificial disc at L5-S1 but I do know that they are notorius for failing when they are installed at that level. They may have installed too big a device for your body frame, or used too much distraction, or it may have nothing to do with the disc at all. Sometimes as we get older our discs start to dry out , they tend to bulge and there may be no other reason than that you are getting older.
As I told you earlier, a bulging disc is not necessarily a problem unless it is causing you pain or pressing on a nerve......and it doesn't seem from the reports that that is the cause of any problems you may be having.

No it is not normal for the disc to be loosening. You need to get back to see your surgeon and soon. If the disc is loosening , then it may dislodge and you don't want that to happen. Go and make an appointment with the surgeon who inserted the disc.

I kinda find it hard to believe that at the age of 28 my back started wearing OUT!!!
But im just a DUrab Laborer.....
 
Please know that we are all trying to help. If you do indeed do a job that involves heavy labor you subject your spine to a lot of wear and tear. Basically once we reach adulthood at 21 it's possible for degeneration of discs to begin. Every person is different, some experience this at 25 and some at 65.
 
It says that you have some minimal bulging to three discs, L2-3, L3-4 ,L4-5, and that there is some minimal touching of the ventral cord in the canal, that just means the front portion of the cord. They want you to have an injection , which usually is a cortisone injection to see if that helps reduce the pain.
A diffuse disc bulge means that that is wide, as in the circumference of the disc. Usually those are not problematic, although some people say they cause pain. A bulging disc is not necessarily a problem, since most of us have them unless they herniate or there are tears in the outside of the disc.

Is this ''NORMAL" for it to be doing this???SHOULD IT BE DOING THIS??

Is this where my PAIN is coming from also besides the NERVE damage??:confused:
 
Thank YOU so much,Now my other question is that WAS NOT there prior to my SURGERY, I have not done ANYTHING since having SURGEY 8-12-08 so what else could have caused this besides putting a art.disc in my L5-S1????
