Please help.
I run a local dog walking group and I have a good friend of mine who is an elderly widow, she is having a terrible time with her dog and I wanted to post and try to help her. She is alone and her two dogs are all she has and I feel so bad that she is having so many vet problems with her dog. PLEASE HELP IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS< Or if you have had similar problems...
Here is the situation:
Problem started about 9 weeks ago. 65 Pound Spayed Female boxer Mix. Friend has spent $6500 on this to date....
Vulva area was swollen and red, took dog in to vet, vet found drain holes in vulva area, they thought it might be a foxtail or
thorn or something in groin area... Puss pockets were drained. Vet pumped a disinfectant in the area to clean. Dog was Put on antibiotics, and the infection went down, after meds were stopped for 2 days she swelled up again, so they did surgery.
Xray before surgery showed nothing foreign in the body.
After first surgery dog got red around anus area, she was moving slower, having problems sitting due to pain, and she was draining from anal area. Dog was kept on antibiotic & pain meds, and the swelling went down...
...After meds stopped, swelling came back every time.
Friend changed vet for a second opinion, new vet did Cat scan, thought they saw something in Cat scan in groin area where glands are, glands were swollen and hard, groin area was red. Second vet did second operation, made 8 inch incision on inner leg/groin area, during surgery they removed infected tissue...Found nothing foreign, and they thought that maybe whatever it was lodged in there was dissolved. Dog was on the meds still for 10 days after second surgery, (was on 2 types of Antibiotics and pain pill.)
After 2nd operation they took some tests and samples of tissue to check for bacterial growth. All they found was NORMAL EVERYDAY bacteria and normal INFECTION, which meds take care of, which should have been gone with the meds she was on. Ten days after second operation the SECOND vet said she looked really good.
Recent vet visit showed dog was draining infection in anal area. Dog went back antibiotics. (Amoxicillin, and Batril now)
(The two different vets were consulting and they are thinking now of removing anal glands is this series of meds don't take care of it..)
Friend is very worried and in tears about losing her dog. I feel bad!
Dog is returning to vet in few days.

Anyone with any help or advise at all much appreciated, thank you very much.
