Why did Boromir succumb to the lure of the Ring? What happened to him? Did he make up for his actions? How and why? What is your overall reaction to the actions of Boromir in the last two chapters?

now i know the ring is so powerful that he was tempted but when i read the book i get confused sometimes. it's hard for me to understand =( please help?

boromir was from gondor, which was very close to mordor and was constantly under attack. beacause of this i think he knew, more than the others, what exactly the power of the ring could do. he felt he could take it to gondor and defeat mordor quickly, and end the constant battle on his home front. he was also a weak minded human. boromir made up for actions by realizing what he did was wrong, and sacraficed himself to help the others. his funeral description, him on the raft with all the armore of the peiople he killed, is one of my favorite parts of the book

the ring is powerful. very powerful. and the race of Man is particularly weak to its powers. it wants Boromir to give in. He didnt betray or anything
