Please help Android 2.2 manual update

Someone please help...I been trying to do this the whole day...But I keep getting the same error message...I download the file...drag it my SDcard...rename it update.zip...recovery...then this

--install fron sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E: failed to read footer from /sdcard/update.zip
(Is a directory)
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
 
redownload it and try again. Download from a different source. and you do know that you don't name it update.zip like literally. you rename it "update" and the .zip gets added on it's own.
 
Yeah make sure it isn't named update.zip.zip. On your computer, make sure it isn't set to hide file extensions and make sure there is only one .zip.
