hi, i have seen an yamaha r1 2001 model. i have noticed that at the back it does not have any bobbins (which go on the paddock stand) just 2 bolts.could this have been dropped thats why he does not have them on? and also it has 14,000 miles and the last service in the service book was at 3000 miles. and no other stamp since. he says he knows about bikes and says he serviced himself. just wondering guys does this look good?
also how can u tell wether the bike has been down the road? it does have a inch and half scuff on the right side bottom fairing, could this be dropped?

i ride so i know what your meaning, you dont want a bike thats about to fall to pieces on the road now...

Id say leave that bike, anybody can say "I know about bikes" but do you really want a bike that hasnt had an real service for what was it 12000 miles???

also about the scuff on the side, could be minor as i got one from a wall while pushing backwards, so dont worry about that, dropping bikes means scratched Indicators and exhaust,

So if i were you ask HIM to get it serviced, then if he does and you see the results sheet/invoice say yes its fine, then and only then say maybe offer to pay for the service too, but thats just me.

It sounds like it been dropped. Look along both sides of the bike carefully. Look for damaged handle bar ends, bent levers, indicator storks, foot pegs. mirrors. Also check that the fairing all lines up where it bolts on, and look for damage around the bolt holes. These type of machines always get a hard life and usually end up getting dropped down the road by boy racers. Its also worth checking the sump bolt to see if its been lock wired. If it has then this bike has been used on track days. Which means its been thrashed. A word of advice always buy with caution when buy a sports machine. If you can get a bike mechanic or someone who knows about bikes to look at it for you. As a golden rule if in doubt walk away.
